The former presidential aspirant, Atiku Abubakar through Priam Group, pledged a sum of Fifty Million Naira (N50,000,000) as part of his own contribution to offer Nigerians palliative while they sit at home to prevent the spread of the ravaging Corona Virus epidemic.

Atiku who opined that the Federal Government should pay each household in Nigeria a sum of Ten Thousand Naira (N10,000), also suggested that telecommunication companies should make airtime of at least, One Thousand Five Hundred Naira (N1,500) available to all registered phone numbers to enable people to communicate while in isolation.

While many Nigerians have seen this as a welcome development, the major questions on the lips of some Nigerians are, how this money, if approved by the government, would get to the people, how is the government going to get the information of all Nigerians now and how the government would demarcate or identify the family setting adjudged as a household.

Many Nigerians have suggested the use of National Identity Card, Bank Verification Number (BVN), Voters Card and Voters Register as the appropriate means of identification and disbursement of such funds if the government should consider the palliative proposal.

However, so far, no suggested means of disbursement is without huge challenges. For instance, not everyone on the Voters Register is still alive. Similarly, not all Nigerians due for such payment have BVN and or National Identity Card. Many Nigerians especially those living in rural areas do not even have bank accounts.

To have the accurate statistic of all Nigerians, there might be a need for Census but of course, Census can't be conducted in this critical time. More so, it takes a lot of time to conduct Census and Nigeria can not bank on the figures it had in the last Census because the population growth is in the speed of light.

Amidst these ample hurdles, a known social media reporter on the case of Corona Virus in Nigeria; "Kazeem Babalola" has however suggested for a simple digital solution for such palliative disbursement. This proposed system can also serve as a reliable, less expensive and fast method of Census in the future.

From reliable sources gathered our reporter "Kazeem Babalola", also suggests that the Federal Government, through the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) should gather certain Information Technology (IT) experts to come up with sophisticated and secured software in form of an application or a website. The software would be designed for biodata collection and should be compatible with Android devices so that people can access them from their homes and input their information while in isolation. I believe there is no community or village in Nigeria without, at least, one android user. Such android owners in remote areas can voluntarily register the aged people and others around them with no computer knowledge.

While many Nigerians have seen this as a welcome development, the major questions on the lips of some Nigerians are, how this money, if approved by the government, would get to the people, how is the government going to get the information of all Nigerians now and how the government would demarcate or identify the family setting adjudged as a household.

With this method, I believed all Nigerians would be registered within a span of, at most, three days and the Federal Government would have the information of all Nigerians as well as know the population of the entire country. The government can also decide an age limit eligible for the payment or carry every single head along.

Having gotten the information of everyone, people should receive their monies directly from the federal government without mediators to prevent embezzlement. With everyone's information on such a secured database, Nigerian wouldn't need a manual Census. All required if for newly born people to get signed up and when it's time to confirm the population of Nigeria at any point, everyone would be reached via phone numbers, emails, and other means to confirm if they are still alive.

If you are in support of Atiku's suggestion, kindly share this information for quick adoption and payment.
