The Politics Of Corona Virus In Nigeria

Corona Virus In Nigeria: The Confusion Continues.
Amidst the lackadaisical attitude portrayed by politicians and citizens of Nigeria towards avoiding the further spread of the COVID 19 virus, it has been reported that some people are going from home to homes in Abuja, pretending to be NCDC officials, asking to conduct Corona Virus test.

The Federal Government and NCDC have however advised: "don’t let them in even if they have a confirmed ID, there's no directive passed from NCDC to its staff to undertake such tests, they’re dangerous people, stay away from them!".
Another worrying question the citizens of Nigeria have been asking ever since the first case of COVID 19 was first detected from an Italian coming into the Country, was the question of: "how much has the government put in place to fight the disease, and how much has been spent so far?
We’ve asked the Minister of Health & DG of NCDC to publish weekly spending details of funds to combat Corona Virus in Nigeria; "disclose the number of tests for politicians compared with tests for the poorest and the level of enforcement for home quarantine system for politicians", people complained.
With no help coming from nowhere, Nigerians are being asked to stay at home, but what is the first aid treatment that can be employed if people begin to have mild related symptoms to the Corona Virus, many have asked, since there are little or no health facilities put in place to care for the masses.
It has been reported that the NCDC boss has recently approved chloroquine for emergency treatment of the virus, yet NCDC has still warned that self-medication and misuse of the drug can cause harm or lead to death.
Consequently, another shocking news was revealed yesterday when NCDC confesses to the public that in Lagos State alone, there are Over 6000 likely infected cases that the NCDC and Government are yet to know their whereabouts, talk more of even testing them to confirm and isolate them. A curfew was only imposed just lately in Lagos, after these cases might have probably affected who knows how many, over the past two weeks.
The reports we receive every day on how NCDC is mishandling the issue of the COVID 19 epidemic, shows that the Government has certainly given the NCDC boss the directive to keep COVID 19 reports as classified information, hiding it from the public, and only updating citizens with false numbers to reduce panic.
News reports from Sahara Reporters shows clearly an example of the secrecy we talk about; as in the case of the Mamman Daura's In-law, Abdullahi Moukhtar, who is also one of the three Abba Kyari’s Staff Infected with Corona Virus. It was also gathered that the Presidency had been hiding the fact from the public in order to avoid panic, maybe because all these people infected are family relations to the President.
Another case scenario is the present Governor of Bauchi State; Bala Mohammed, who was in Germany on the 13th of March 2020. He met with German businessmen at the Nigerian Embassy in Berlin, he met with NCDC boss and his team on the 16th of March, and also shook hands with the richest man in Africa; Aliko Dangote on the 19th of March.
In addition to all these, the case of the Chief of Staff to the President of Nigeria; Abba Kyari still remains inconclusive, given the fact that he met with 16 APC Governors few days before testing positive to the Virus, and still as we speak, people are still waiting for the test results from some of these Governors. It baffles me that only El-Rufai; the Governor of Kaduna State is the only one who has summoned the courage to come
out to declare his positive result to the public, as he self isolates.

What scares people more is the recent COVID 19 positive results declaration of Oyo State Governor; Seyi Makinde who's not even an APC Governor, adding to the Nation's total tally of infected persons to 131 as of yesterday, the 30th of March 2020.

As things unfold at this moment, I think NCDC needs to self-isolate and go for a test, since most of these politicians and government staffs had close contact with the NCDC boss of recent.
We may say we are still at one fatality. But the way the numbers keep rising calls for the support, cooperation & vigilance of all.
Please stay home. Help your neighbor with the correct information from NCDC & Ministry of Health. We should all stand as one in this campaign to defeat Corona Virus.
